A PERMANENT COLLECTION OF SKJØLSVIK'S WORK
The art center TBS Gallery shows exhibitions with sculptures, paintings and drawings by the 84-year-old visual artist Tore Bjørn Skjølsvik. Opened on 19 May 2019, the gallery presents a variety of exhibitions and cultural events throughout the spring, summer and autumn. During winter the gallery presents an exhibition of Skjølsvik.
TBS Gallery is located in a property that includes a villa and a former stable, surrounded by a lush sculpture garden.
Eiendommen, Oscars gt. 23, ligger nær Det kongelige slott, en ti minutters gange gjennom Slottsparken, i hjertet av Frogner.
PAINTING AND SCULPTURE EXHIBITION
The works on show at TBS Gallery include widely exhibited equestrian sculptures in bronze, like the horse and rider Into the Future; clay sculptures such as Mother and Child; sculptures of the Norwegian kings Olav V and Harald VII; and statues of the polar explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen.
Visitors can also see Skjølsvik’s casts of Knut Hamsun, the Nobel Prize winning author, and Henrik Ibsen, Norway’s most famous dramatist and writer. On display too are paintings and sculptures of archetypal Norwegian characters like Sildekona, the herring girl.
SPORTS PERSONALITIES AND CONTROVERSIAL FIGURES
Skjølsvik’s recent works include statues and intense portrayals of famous sports personalities such as the current Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the former Liverpool player John Arne Riise, the long-distance runner Ingrid Christensen and the skier Oddvar Brå. Skjølsvik’s latest sparks of inspiration have led him to create realistic clay sculptures of world leaders such as Donald Trump and cultural personalities like the Norwegian performance artist Kjartan Slettemark. If you are lucky, you might catch the artist at work in his studio, sculpting one of his clay motifs. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
AN EXCITING ALTERNATIVE TO VIGELANDSPARKEN
With its idyllic setting, sculpture garden and the ambience of a working artist’s studio, TBS Gallery is a gallery for all seasons and welcomes visitors throughout the year. Some of the sculptures and paintings are on permanent display, while others are for sale.
